During the California Gold Rush, settlers crossing the Panama region found a practical and elegant way to protect themselves from the sun. This finely woven straw hat, made in Ecuador, soon became known as the Panama Hat. Renowned for its strength, lightness and fine weave. This Panama Hat is handwoven in one continuous weave from straw obtained from the leaves of the Toquilla palm (Carludovica Palmata).
